“Sight”, a futuristic game on a romantic dinner

19/04/2015

Futurism. That movement dedicated to evolution, to the future and solitude, assumed once with the risk of technological revolutions, initiated by an Italian poet, Filippo Tomaso Marinetti around 1909. It sounds curious, intriguing and frightening alike. Appetizing with a predilection for the fans of modern technology, the short sci-fi movie made by Eran May-Razand Daniel Lazo as a license project for the Bezaleal Arts Academy, it draws you in a fragment of the future with “what if”s, but it introduces you in a more-likely-world that awaits us. Sight – one of the scenarios that overwhelms you with its peculiar imagination, accuracy and rhetorical questions, being cataloged as an exceptional and disturbing short movie. It’s not the first time when  I bump into something that raises blinding questions: all this informational tide that smashes into us, this tide that helps us connect or disconnect with one and other? With what does this help, practically? Is there any intimacy? What is, in fact, reality, if we let ourselves seduced by so many plausible but different perspectives?
Sight. A look at, a possible horizon of a world in which the applications inspired by Google glasses permits us to free our wishes of any kind, especially in human relationships. How do couples form and what relations dominate the interaction? One quasi-apocalyptic scenario that gathers the dangers of an augmented reality, its promises and the dangers that we wish and have hidden deep within us.
Comment. OK, good, we’re aligning to evolution, we accelerate and celebrate the facility of work, helping us with the most amazing gadgets and robots. But, we are people and we should not forget that the capacity of creating and evolving brings risks. The mind oozes us with imagination, for our good and for humanity’s good. It also gives us the insidious thought that helps us surpass the limits and do everything that we wish to do, like demigods. Good and bad. What happens when we surpass the boarders of welfare in our search for the supreme power? And also, in which camps do we choose to be? Idealists, futurists, are they adrift, being fixated on the rational, social and emotional intelligence?
